Check your address before relying on a street pile

Davis offers seasonal on-street collection in many, but not all, areas. The City’s address lookup is the place to check eligibility and the next collection date. Do not use a neighbor’s pile as proof that your address qualifies. If the timing or coverage does not suit your cleanup, compare an off-schedule collection or hauling option before moving material into the street.

Cart material and pile material are not interchangeable

The City excludes grass clippings, vines and weeds from street piles even though yard material is also collected through organics carts. Confirm the appropriate preparation for your material with the City. For our assessment, describe those materials separately from branches; a single photograph of the top of a pile may not show what needs handling underneath.

Keep a private pickup out of the bike route

Davis’s guidance specifically allows customers to seek a hauling quote for excess yard material outside pile season and says that material may not be stored in the street for that option. Keep the proposed pickup on your property and show us the gate or driveway access. Identify the location before moving a heavy pile; preserve a clear path for people using the property.

Leave the cutting to your yard-work provider

Our visit is for material already prepared to leave. If a gardener or tree-service provider is doing the cutting, establish who will haul the debris before that work begins. Tell us about large wood pieces, soil, wire or other mixed contents so we can review acceptance and scope. Do not assume a removal estimate includes additional pruning.
